Beyond the Blockade: Education in Cuba

For 64 years, Cuba, a tiny island in the Caribbean, has had to contend with a vicious economic blockade imposed by its powerful neighbour the USA. Despite these appalling challenges, Cuba continues to invest heavily in the social fabric of its country which has a healthcare and education system which are the envy of the world.

The contents of this book will allow aspects of Cuba to be known, such as the development of the education system, as well as the present relationship between the UK National Education Union (NEU) and the SNTECD (National Union of Workers in Education, Science and Sport) of Cuba, which dates from 1993.

Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, education in Cuba has been a priority, so that this very important undertaking has received the necessary support to achieve its maximum development from the highest level of government in the country.
